Rare French chasuble and stole in a façonné woven in Bursa, - Lot 43
Rare French chasuble and stole in a façonné woven in Bursa, Turkey, 17th-18th century, cream wool and rust silk façonné decorated with a large flower inscribed between two long curved palms. Shaped braid in cream linen and pink and green silk, decorated with florets delimiting the orphreys, lining in red buckram, (wear and a few minor accidents), approx. 115 x 72 cm for the back.
This type of large, demonstrative decoration, frequently used on the opulent kemha and sérâser woven in Bursa, appeared at the end of the 16th century. It enjoyed continued success until the end of the 18th century, particularly for export to Italy and the rest of Europe.
