(M) Two canes with carved knobs, one of a Breton man playing - Lot 2
(M) Two canes with carved knobs, one of a Breton man playing a biniou, the other of a Breton woman wearing a traditional headdress, the shafts pierced with a vine around which a snake is coiled. Brittany, mid-twentieth century. Art brut work attributed to the patient from Saint-Avé (1912-1989?), while he was an inmate at the Lesvellec psychiatric hospital in Saint-Avé near Vannes. Originally from Morbihan, the artist worked as a cabinetmaker. Interned around 1950, he produced a number of works (forgeries, canes, Breton statuettes). His works are on display at the Musée des Hortensias in Saint-Avé, the Musée Départemental in Quimper, and the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuis. L. 95 cm and 94 cm MH
