Senoufo pendant, Korhogo, Ivory Coast - Lot 133
Senoufo pendant, Korhogo, Ivory Coast Late 19th - early 20th century Bronze H. 4.5 cm Bibliography : Blandin André, Bronzes et autres alliages, Afrique de l'Ouest, André Blandin, Marignane, 1988, 288 pages. Surmounting a flared base engraved with geometric motifs, with the ends of the legs blending into the support, two figures are depicted, evoking a twin figure or a couple. The composition is beautifully symmetrical, with a subtle interplay of full and empty spaces. The arms are beautifully rounded, free of the body, with hands resting on the hips and legs spread apart, forming openwork spaces tending the effigy towards abstraction. The flattened faces with their blurred features testify to the ritual use of this protective amulet made using the lost-wax technique.
