CCCCC. XXXV, useful & necessary to all people of justice and practice: both of the said countries and of the whole kingdom of France, with summaries on each article added to more easily find all the matters. With also the concordances of the ancient ordinances of all the kingdom of France, on several of which & also of the constitutions of the said countries they were extracted. And which present ordinances have been collected in the true original. Denys de Harsy, Lyon, 1536. In-4°, 135 (11) f., chocolate-brown morocco, ribbed spine, gilt edges, large inner gilt roulette, gilt edges (Chambolle Duru relieur). Ex libris Raoul Édouard Cartier. Bound at the head, 5 handwritten leaves ... Collection of royal ordinances for Provence during the reign of François I, witness to the integration of the "country" into the kingdom of France. The ordinances constitute the laws applicable to the entire kingdom. In order to facilitate integration into the kingdom, they were designed to spare "...local susceptibilities by not modifying the privileges and administrative and judicial frameworks inherited from the time of the county's passage into the French orbit, François I had a collection of laws printed for the province's legal practitioners, intended to remind the province exposed to the incursions of Charles-Quint of his authority as king, and to bring local justice closer to common forms."
