DESHOULIERES (Antoinette). Works of Mrs. and Miss Deshoulièr - Lot 253
DESHOULIERES (Antoinette). Works of Mrs. and Miss Deshoulières. Paris, at Antoine Auguste Renouard, 1803. 2 volumes in-8, red long-grained morocco, large lace framing the plates composed of arrows, urns, doves and gilded fleurons, spine decorated with large gilded irons, gilded edges (R. P. Chilliat). Madame Deshoulières nicknamed "the tenth muse" by her contemporaries, woman of letters and friend of Corneille, was the very first woman received at the Academy. She tried her hand at several literary genres. Edition on large vellum paper, printed with the stereotype process invented in 1800 by Louis-François Hertan. Decorated with an amusing vignette on the title representing the profiles of Gutenberg, Fust and Schoeffer. Without the portrait of Mrs. Deshoulière, dark marks in the margins of qq. leaves, small perforation on folio 205-206. A beautiful copy nicely bound by Chilliat, a fine Parisian bookbinder of the early 19th century.
