# SARAYNA (Torello). DE ORIGINE ET AMPLITUDINE CIVITATIS VE - Lot 204
# SARAYNA (Torello). DE ORIGINE ET AMPLITUDINE CIVITATIS VERONAE. Eiusdem de viris illustribus antiquis Veronensibus. De his qui potiti fuerunt dominio civitatis Veronae. De monumentis antiquis urbis, & agri Veronensis. De interpretatione litterarum antiquarum. Index praeterea huius operis in calce additus est Verona, ex officina Antonio Putelletti, 1540, in folio of 66-[4] leaves, soft ivory vellum, title calligraphed on the back (period binding). First edition of the treatise on the antiquities of Verona illustrated with 29 MAGNIFICENT woodcuts, some of them folding, showing monuments, architectural details with a very nice portrait of the author. This remarkable illustration is due to the Veronese painter Giovanni Caroto. Written in the form of a dialogue between the author and the artist, a notable passage (on f.8) includes a discussion on the realization of the large woodcut showing a reconstruction of the interior of the amphitheater, which is mostly missing, present in this copy and bound at the end. Small accidents to the binding with lacks, wear, foxing, repair to the corner of a plate with loss of some letters. A copy that has remained pure, complete and in accordance with the collation of the one digitized in the Zurich library (doi.org/10.3931/e-rara-5380) (USTC 854911) (Brunet V, 139) (Adams S394) (Cicognara 4089) (Mortimer Italian, 462).
