Rare embroidery model for a vest celebrating the abolition o - Lot 237
Rare embroidery model for a vest celebrating the abolition of slavery, Lyon workshop, circa 1794. Gouache design on laid paper depicting the lower part of the left side of a right vest decorated with a garland of flowers and leaves that seem to climb in a cheerful movement a rope of black slaves chained to each other. In the upper part of the composition, as if they had reached the top, the first two have broken their chains. On the bottom of the vest, a sowing of flowers in pencil remains to be put in colors; above, a handwritten inscription of the master of work to the address of the embroiderers of the workshop: Mesdemoiselles I beg you to raise the figures and to draw them correctly, better than you did and to distinguish the (margins?) of black and carmelite what you forgot. H. 37 cm - L. 26,5 cm RMH Slight soiling, usual for a workshop document.
