Suit, Louis XVI period, suit with flapped collar in fire red - Lot 199
Suit, Louis XVI period, suit with flapped collar in fire red woolen cloth closed by two clasps under the collar with only a fine twisted braid fashioned silver thread and yellow silk with semis of flowers arranged on the front, the cuffs and on the basques to form fringed tassel cords. Salmon cotton canvas lining with two deep pockets, (some holes especially under the arms). Related works: seen from the back, this suit seems to be identical in every way to the campaign clothes of the House of Orleans worn by all the characters represented in the painting The Gentlemen of the Duke of Orleans in the Saint Cloud suit painted by Carmontelle in 1770 and kept at the Nissim de Camondo Museum
