Paris, Éditions du Centre Pompidou, 2018, a similar copy reproduced p.136. Along with Le Pouce, created in 1965, Le Sein is the most emblematic of the sculptor's works in the human footprint suite. Its genesis is astonishing: César proposed to Hélène Rochas of the eponymous perfumes, to place a stainless steel breast five metres in diameter in the basin of his Poissy factory. The breast of Victoria von Krupp, a dancer at the Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse, was used as the matrix. As with the thumb, the artist, playing with the pantograph, will then enjoy varying the dimensions and also the materials of her breasts, to be hung on the wall or placed on the floor.
