Square cutlery case in the shape of a spearhead with six sid - Lot 368
Square cutlery case in the shape of a spearhead with six side loops and a mobile lid. It is made of pressed leather and engraved with two blind shields and two medallions with the letter M in Gothic script, all on a background of foliage and birds on a pearl and vine background. The interior is lined with an incomplete and probably later red cloth. Late 15th century H. 22 cm - L (lid) : 6,5 cm Small missing parts This rare object uses a very particular technique, that of boiled and pressed leather cooked in water. Once solidified, but still wet, it is worked, embossed and inscribed. When it is dry, it is treated with linseed oil to protect it. Expert : Bernard Leseuil
