TAYLOR (Isidore) - NODIER (Charles). Picturesque and romanti - Lot 93
TAYLOR (Isidore) - NODIER (Charles). Picturesque and romantic journeys in old France: NORMANDY Paris, from the printing works of Firmin Didot the Elder, 1820-25. 3 volumes in-folio, bronze half-shell with corners (contemporary binding). The first print of the first part of Taylor's voyage, it is decorated with 242 lithographed plates, which are among the most beautiful. It was in June 1810 that Taylor conceived the plan for this work, which was considerable in terms of its dimensions and ambition; the idea was to travel around France with a team of draftsmen to gather all the documentation on the monuments. It was the first work in France in which lithography was so widely used. Good copy, without freckles, conforming to Vicar (VII, 765).
