Réparation de l’attentat des Corses. 1666.No 19 - Lot 265
Réparation de l’attentat des Corses. 1666.No 19 Painted by Ch. Le Brun (1619 - 1690), drawn by jean Massé (1687 - 1767), engraved by Liotard (1702 - 1796) and finished by Tardieu (Jacques Nicolas Fils, 1716 -1791). Large margins. The oil painting can be seen in Versailles, at the Musée national des châteaux de Versailles et du Trianon. The allegory of France is based on the design of the pyramid that Pope Alexander VII had erected at the request of Louis XIV to make reparation for the attack committed in Rome by his Corsican guards against the suite of the Duc de Créqui, the French ambassador. According to the National Gallery of Art, the engraving, etching and burin, was published in 1752. Very nice proof. H. 48,5 cm - W. 30,4 cm at the bowl
