Lydie BONFILS (1837-1918) - Lot 96
Lydie BONFILS (1837-1918) Autograph letter addressed to his mother 2 pages in-4 in black ink about the bad behaviour of his brother Elie Cabanis,September 19 (around 1875). The end of the letter is annotated with an autograph comment signed Félix Bonfils. [...] Let Elie try to make Félix forget what he says to me, for he always says that he could never have thought that such a threat could come out of his mouth and he must think that we did not take him back out of fear but only for you, His bad words thrown into the air give me a very bad time because Félix always says that such thoughts and words cannot exist in a loyal and upright heart [...] cholera has done us harm, first of all my health is no longer the same and I feel that in my work I need a great deal of calm without being worried. Let Elie remember that I no longer want to put myself in the position of having to tell Felix lies for him. We receive a letter from our correspondent in Jerusalem who tells us that he has sent cardboard and paper to Elie in Jaffa; he does not say whether he has been paid or not. Now Felix is getting angry again and I have to put up with everything, and only for Elijah, who only tells one lie after another [...]. I confirm Lydia's letter to you, that Elie be docile and faithful in his dealings, if he does not feel able to respond to the trust I am going to put in him here in France, let him stay home. When he is in the house, let him think about work, without wasting the time of my other employees, and if he does well in the first month that I will try, he will be paid according to his work. The threat he made to his sister, I have it on my heart, there is only good manners on his part that will make me forget it. I wish you all good health. Your loving son-in-law Bonfils Félix. An autograph letter signed by Lydie Bonfils to 'My dear Anne', Montpellier January 1, 1890. 2 pages in-8 [...] The business of our house in Beirut is giving us a lot of trouble, Cholera is very close, our house is alone and the first employee says he wants to leave, so Adrien wanted to leave in spite of us, and if there is cholera in Beirut he will stop 2 days away but he will be closer to the house [...] at the moment we cannot take anything out of Beirut, not even our invested money, and this disturbs us in all respects [...]
