Réunion de deux lettres de sculpteurs adressées à Mr Gaspéri - Lot 242
Réunion de deux lettres de sculpteurs adressées à Mr Gaspéri* - Antoine BOURDELLE (1861-1929) Autograph letter signed, Paris 22 April 1902 4 pages in-8 Dear Mr Gaspéri I received the plaster casts and I thank you very much for them. They are of a very endearing character and of a beautiful breadth of vision. I thank you deeply for your kind attention I was very happy for your painting I promise myself the pleasure of going to analyze it at the salon one of these mornings I will send you the articles which will be able to serve for the conference that you so kindly plan for my work. A. Alexandre (Figaro) names me as the head of the sculpture and in great terms. [...] Carrière and the Besnards, but Carrière especially did not detach himself from my (war) of two afternoons. He gave me unforgettable praise, saying that when you've done such a work you mustn't give a damn about anything! critics or not, for or against. Never mind, you have given us a masterpiece and you are a soul - even Besnard, a great talent that I only know by sight - shouted his admiration and told me that it was the most beautiful modern sculpture. The good comrades did not say a word to me - they shunned me, that's very good. So I am not nice, it's true, to give them such a set of architecture and sculpture that are one and the same [...] Auguste RODIN (1840-1917) Autograph letter signed, Meudon January 1, 1916; 1 page and a half in-8, [...] Thank you for your delightful note containing such kind wishes. I send you mine and ask you to give my best wishes to Madame and Mademoiselle Gaspéri [...]. Probably Raphaël Gaspéri (1866-1935) painter then curator of the Brive museum.
