Pair of Tsonga spoons - Lot 86
Pair of Tsonga spoons MOZAMBIQUE Wood locally blackened by fire, beautiful old patina H. 30 cm The twisted sleeves end in a head wearing a hat topped by two monoxyl rings. A less complex and incomplete spoon has been published by Michael Stevenson and Michael Graham-Stewart (The Mlungu in Africa, 2003, page 44). These rare spoons, dating from the late nineteenth century, are attributed to the sculptor Muhlati, who worked in Lourenço Marques, now Maputo.
