Robert BRESSON - Lot 60
Robert BRESSON Au hasard Balthazar (1966). 1 volume in-4 bound full olive cloth. 175 pages. Typewritten text overflowing with notes, accompanied by the manuscript of the shooting plan (18 pp. in-4, in the hand of Geneviève Cortier), a set of press clippings and 72 original photos taken during the shooting glued with adhesive tape opposite the script (most of them detached). A cult film of the New Wave, celebrated by Godard as a "masterpiece marking a turning point in the art of filmmaking" - who fell so deeply in love with actress Anne Wiazemsky that he married her a few weeks later. In 2007, Anne Wiazemsky published her novel Jeune Fille, in which she recounts her meeting with Robert Bresson and her relationship during the filming of Au hasard Balthazar. A copy of this book is enclosed with a copy sent to Geneviève Cortier "Dear Geneviève, this Young Girl that you know a little bit about. Hoping to see you again soon and to talk at greater length. I kiss you. Anne W.". As well as Une année Studieuse where she tells of her meeting with Godard, with this entry: "Dear Geneviève, A studious year, to do something with your notebook at the film library, perhaps...". Provenance: Geneviève Cortier, scripte de cinéma.
