Edmond JABÈS (1912-1991), poète et écrivain d'origine égypti - Lot 28
Edmond JABÈS (1912-1991), poète et écrivain d'origine égyptienne 4 L.A.S. to Max Bilen. 1982-1988. 7 pp. ½ in-8. After the reading of a manuscript he sent him. "He is close to me, I told you, but he doesn't really seem to me to be at the point [...]. There are too many pages in this long story that are meant to be true confidences: you speak about yourself with such nakedness of expression that it is not bad that the reader is immediately informed about your project. You can, if the idea of Journal irritates you, deliver this narrative in fragments, and even give titles to each of these fragments, as Michel Leiris does, for example (although you are quite far from his writing). You are still too attached to this text to be able to take it up again. But think about it all the same [...]". He talks about his travel plans to Canada, the United States, Italy, his wife's health, the publication of his book at Shokken Books, Bilen's work. "Your text, which you were kind enough to send me, is very beautiful. I was happy and moved to read it. If you have others, you should think about bringing them together. Know that your text has been with me since I received it [...]". Max Bilen published Jabès, du déchirement à l'unité in 1989. Enclosed are two L.A.S. from his wife Arlette Cohen (1914-1992), a draft of a letter from Max Bilen to Arlette (1991, after the poet's death) and various documents including the programme for the Edmond Jabès Day organised at Tel Aviv University.
