Four items of Warlace in Point de Paris handmade bobbin lace dating from about 1914-1918.
These laces have been produced in the World War 1, with the help of Mr. Herbert Hoover who was not yet president of the US but a clever businessman helping the Belgium country, by supporting the Belgian lacemakers without any work under the occupation of the German army and more specifically in providing them the so rare needed thread.
We can see here the emblems of the allied countries: the lion for Belgium, the rooster for France, the unicorn for Great Britain and the bear for Russia and one with pekinese dogs motif. The president Herbert Hoover had a predilection for this breed of dog and the Belgian lace-makers created this Pekinese motive in his honor to thanks him for his help.
All are made of cotton thread, (very good unused condition, a stain at one doily).
Dim. borders, rooster : 110 cm x 10 cm, pekinese Dim. 37 cm x 7,5 cm Diameter doilies : 26,5 cm & 18,5 cm
