GALLIEN. HISTOIRE DES NOBLES PROUESSES ET... - Lot 88 - De Baecque et Associés
GALLIEN. HISTOIRE DES NOBLES PROUESSES ET VAILLANCES DE GALLIEN RESTAURE, son of the noble Olivier, the Marquis and of the beautiful Jaqueline, daughter of king Hugon, emperor of Constentinople. Troyes, Jean Garnier, (circa 1630). In-4° of 124 pages, green morocco, gilt title on the spine, gilt inner lace (modern binding). A 15th century chivalry novel here in a peddling edition, made in Troyes, a town that specialized in this type of book. The first wood which adorns the prologue is from the 16th century while the second (Ganelon's quartering by 4 horses) is contemporary with the present edition. Rare edition, like all the old popular novels, destroyed by use and by the little care that their readers - simple people - brought to their conservation, as well as by the bad quality of the paper used (candle paper). Light rings.
