CERVANTES (M. de). VARIOUS WORKS. THE STORY OF THE ADMIRABLE DON QUIXOTE OF THE SLEEVE. 6 vols. NOUVELLES. 2 vols. Amsterdam and Leipzig, Arkstée and Merkus, 1768. 8 volumes in-12 of [14]-370; [6]-369-[8]-371; [8]-453; [8]-420; [8]-422-[2 (notice to the binder)] and [2]-44-358; [4]-396 pages, half cherry morocco, spine ribbed and decorated, edges speckled (19th century binding). The 6 volumes of Don Quixote are illustrated with an engraved faux-title, (portrait missing), 6 pictorial vignettes on the titles, two of which are repeated, and 31 out-of-text figures by Coypel engraved by Folkéma and Fokke. These 6 volumes were translated by Filleau de Saint-Martin, a translation to which the proofreader has made only slight changes. The 2 volumes of short stories contain the life of Cervantes and are illustrated with a portrait engraved by Folkéma after Kent, 2 title vignettes and 13 out-of-text figures by Folkéma, one for each of the 13 short stories. A plate from volume 1 is bound in volume 2. A pleasant copy, well bound. (Rothschild n°1756).
