CHINA - Transition of the QIANLONG - JIAQING reigns (Late 18th century) Very large divinatory compass made of wood covered with varnished printed paper On one side, a succession of concentric rings of the Chinese cosmological system, combining various signs or divinatory characters (Trigrams, Chinese zodiac, cardinal points and directions, perpetual calendar...), in black and red, a small glass compass in the center At the back, a map of the sky showing multiple stars with evocative names: "mirror of the sky, north pole, star of the emperor, portal of the southern army, flower of the north, inn of the star, dog of the sky, inn of the horses, the Song people"... On the edge, a seven-letter inscription: "Great Qing, Buei (?) pavilion, made for the Emperor". Late 18th century D. 51 cm Small lack of varnish on the front
