Ntomo Comb Mask, Bambara, Mali H. 54,5 cm Beautiful... - Lot 143 - De Baecque et Associés
Ntomo Comb Mask, Bambara, Mali H. 54,5 cm Beautiful example of a comb mask, from the Segou region, used by members of the Ntomo society during agrarian ceremonies. This mask with its sober and pure lines is composed of six branches in front of which a feminine representation of Jonyeleni, the ancestral woman who embodies the feminine ideal for the Bambara, stands in majesty and with pride. A slender face with a refined jaw. A subtle play of concave and convex planes and shapes, the forehead curved from the straight eyebrow arch. Long and thin nasal bridge drawing a pointed nose. Small pout. Black patina imitating a usual patina. Multiple repairs.
