*Two ta'a puaika ear punches, Marquesas Islands,... - Lot 99 - De Baecque et Associés
*Two ta'a puaika ear punches, Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia Marine ivory L. 10 cm Provenance : Private collection, Switzerland Rarely made of marine ivory, few taa puaina ear punches exist in Western collections. Handled by a priest, they were used during sacred ceremonies called oka, dedicated to the initiation rite of passage to adulthood, to pierce the ears of children. Their refined tops, on which are delicately engraved the distinctive features of the tiki, translate the canon of Marquesan art and the ritual importance of these objects. This lot is a temporary import and is subject to a 5.5% buyer's fee in addition to the selling price. For an exit of the EU a CITES of re-export will be necessary, this one being chargeable to the future purchaser.
