Cylinder seal engraved with a mythological battle scene. Two heroes wearing bonnets and short skirts master two androcephalous bulls, while a third bareheaded hero faces a lion. third bareheaded hero confronts a lion. Black marble or serpentine. Mesopotamia, Akkadian period, ca. 2350-2200 B.C. Serpentine. H. 3.4 cm ES Sharp and deep engraving for this emblematic scene of Akkadian glyptics. Superb preservation. This scene has often been related to the myth of Gilgamesh and Enkidu. This cylinder-seal belongs to phase II of the classification established by R.M. Boehmer in his book on "the development of glyptics work on "the development of glyptics in the Akkadian period", corresponding to the time of Rimush and Manishtusu.
