ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT WORKS ILLUSTRATED BY JACQUES VILLON. First edition of Paul Valéry's translation, masterfully embellished in full color. The illustration features a frontispiece and 45 mid-page compositions drawn on stone in color by Jacques Villon, who engraved each color on a different stone in his own hand. Three hundred stones were used for the book, all printed on Mourlot presses. Edition strictly limited to 269 copies, this one of 245 numbered on Arches. A fine copy.
