(XIV°- XV°). MANUSCRIPT BREVIARY. - Lot 1
(XIV°- XV°). MANUSCRIPT BREVIARY.
Flanders (?), XIV/XV° century.
In-16, (136 x 98 mm) - (82x63 mm) of 134 leaves on vellum, vellum with small flaps (modern binding).
33 long lines for the calendar and 24 lines on two columns for the rest of the manuscript.
This breviary appears to have been copied in Flanders between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. Beautiful watermarked initials with red and blue antennae punctuate the manuscript, and the first lines of the columns sometimes bear grotesque lettering in brown ink.
- f. 1-6: Roman calendar: later additions of saints and reason book in February: "Obiit pater meus [...]".
- f. 7-134: Festive Psalter with antiphons, capitulae, brief responsories, verses and collects from the ordinary office.
Incomplete manuscript, the last leaf bears the advertisement "Deus qui beatum" which introduces the vespers oration of Saint Nicholas. First leaf browned and restored, characters rubbed and sometimes illegible in the calendar.
