China, Qing dynasty (1644-1911) - Lot 24
China, Qing dynasty (1644-1911) Pair of bronze earrings, each consisting of a band with repoussé decoration of small birds perched on a flowering branch and an openwork peacock at one end, curved in a circle. Diam. 5.2 cm; W. 2 cm Provenance : Collection acquired (by the current owner's husband) from Marianne Densmore in the early 1960s in Paris, and at the sale of her collection after her death, on November 6, 7 and 8, 1968 at Drouot; some items therefore probably came from the collection of Charles Vignier (1863-1934), Marianne Densmore's brother, whose gallery she took over in 1934 (on his death). To be compared with the pair of earrings in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, M. 126-1938, from the George Eumorfopoulos collection. [2]
