Important dragon-embroidered headband, China, second half of - Lot 5
Important dragon-embroidered headband, China, second half of the 19th century, red woollen canvas embroidered in gold thread and polychrome silk with three 5-clawed dragons chasing a fire pearl through the clouds. Indigo cotton canvas lining and top band, (rare small holes on the bottom), 78 x 385 cm.
According to family tradition, this headband came from the Great Temple of Peking or the Imperial Palace. It was brought back by Ulysse Pilat, French consul and member of the family that ran the eponymous factory. His name is inscribed on a bolduc.
