Tomioka Haruko (1847- 1940), circa 1931 Vertical calligraphy, ink on paper, inscribed "Medetaku" (Congratulations!), signed lower left Haruko at age 84 (i.e. 1931) with two seals (Tomioka and Haruko) seal, and another seal upper right, mounted on silk in a vertical roll, the jiku-saki in porcelain, with its box. H. 84.5 cm - W. 17 cm (calligraphy only) H. 169 cm - W. 19 cm (overall) Tomioka Haruko was the third wife of the great painter Tomioka Tessai (1836/37-1924), and was herself renowned for her poems and calligraphy.
