Painting, ink and colors on silk, depicting the Thirteen Buddha mandala, "Jûsan Butsu mandara" on a black background, mounted on silk in a vertical scroll, the copper jiku-saki incised with scrolls (in a box).

The Thirteen Buddhas are composed of five Buddhas (Nyorai), seven Bodhisattvas (Bosatsu) and one Vidyaraja (Myô-ô). They are venerated by the Shingon school of Buddhism, particularly during funeral services, each deity being invoked on a particular date after the death of the deceased.
