Built between 1934 and 1936, the Sanatorium Martel de Janville under the direction of architects Pol Abraham and Henry-Jacques Le Même was one of the great modernist adventures of the 1930s. Decorator Jules Leleu was chosen to design the functional furniture that would become one of the first examples of mass-produced metal furniture, thanks to the workshops of Jean Prouvé. With its functional and hygienic design, the use of sheet metal and the revolutionary choice of simple red lacquer, this furniture, the result of the collaboration between one of the great designers of Art Deco and one of the pioneers of metal, was one of the most modern of its time.
