Turkana Shield, Kenya Metal H. 88 cm In... - Lot 24 - De Baecque et Associés
Turkana Shield, Kenya Metal H. 88 cm In the north of Kenya, the Turkana made shields of similar shapes but on two different material bases: leather and iron, thus requiring the mastery of distinct techniques. A long and high shield with a narrow and curved rectangular shape, with four pointed ends, presenting a fine median rib in relief from the top to the base. For similar examples, see Plaschke, Dieter, Manfred A. Zirngibl, Afrikanische Schilde, and in Boucliers d'Afrique, d'Asie du Sud-Est et d'Océanie du Musée Barbier-Mueller, Paris, 1998, p. 46.
