*Kiribati sword, Micronesia Wood, teeth,... - Lot 14 - De Baecque et Associés
*Kiribati sword, Micronesia Wood, teeth, vegetable fiber L. 105 cm Accidents Provenance : Private collection, Switzerland Its slightly curved wooden body rises towards the sky, adorned with two rows of sharks' teeth. A true jewel of the Kiribati war industry, which responded to the intra-ethnic struggles that shook this society. This weapon was as formidable (inflicting cruel and terrible mutilation on the opponent), as it was rare. Excessively dangerous, it traditionally accompanied the wearing of armor made of braided coconut fibers in order to protect oneself from the sharp ornaments of these same swords. Each shark tooth was meticulously pierced in its center for mounting. This is a rare example in private collections due to its size, shape, quality of the wood and the shark teeth chosen. This lot is a temporary import and is subject to a 5.5% buyer's fee in addition to the selling price.
