*Ambrym Masses, Vanuatu Wood L. 86 cm Provenance : Private collection, Switzerland Discovered in 1768 by Bougainville, the island of Ambrym, (in the Vanuatu archipelago) was named (by Captain James Cook in 1774) because of its derivative in the Ranon language; Ham rim meaning, there are yams here. Long club from the island of Ambrym, made of hard wood with a shiny honey patina. Flaring delicately at the top with a flattened end, the rim decorated with four oblong shapes in relief. Lot in temporary importation and subject to a fee of 5.5% to be paid by the buyer in addition to the selling expenses and the hammer price.
