"One of the most beautiful monuments that the Arts have raised for the reedification of ancient France." (Quérard). L'Ancien Bourbonnais is the first work of a series of albums that were very popular in the 1830's and 40's. They were born from a reaction against the Voyages Pittoresques that were considered inaccurate and too much focused on the gothic. The atlas consists of an engraved title, 136 LITHOGRAPHIC PLATES including 3 portraits and 2 folded maps (1 flyleaf), the first volume contains the portrait of the author by H. Dupont, all engraved and lithographed under the direction of M. Chenavard after the drawings and documents of M. Dufour by a company of artists. Accidents to the bindings with lacks, rings and strong freckles on the whole.
