Pair of rectangular coach trunks with domed lids in copper studded leather, the front and the lid decorated with hearts, spikes, crosses and rosettes. Two important locks with hasp in cast bronze and cut with scrolls and fleur-de-lys reversed. Lateral drop handles. 17th century H. 50 cm - W. 110 cm - D. 59 cm BL Two reinforcements in the front for one, accidents and lacks (one handle damaged for one) Provenance : According to family tradition, Jean Edmond FILHOL de CAMAS (1767-1854), then by descent to the present owner. Jean Edmond Filhol de Camas was named Baron of the Empire in 1808. He lived through the turbulent periods of the Revolution, the Empire and the Restoration with panache. He joined the revolutionary troops after having been trained as an artilleryman under the Ancien Régime. He took part in the battle of Valmy, and then followed the Napoleonic epic, which took him to the campaigns in Silesia, Spain, Portugal and Russia. He was wounded at the battle of Leipzig. At the fall of the Empire he rallied to Louis XVIII who confirmed his title of baron in 1817.
