FABERGÉ Imperial present brooch in yellow gold 56 zolotniks (583 thousandths) of diamond shape, with applied decoration of the imperial eagle of Russia set with diamonds cut in roses, on a background of pink enamel salmon guilloche with radiant decoration, the border chiseled with foliage in green gold, the angles also set with diamonds cut in roses (good general condition, small restoration on the setting). Saint Petersburg, 1899-1908. Goldsmith : Alfred THIELEMANN. Without title and kokochnik hallmarks, goldsmith's hallmarks only. L. 4 cm - Gross weight: 12.8 g. Provenance This type of brooch decorated with the imperial eagle was among the most popular presents given by Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. The inventory of the Imperial Cabinet indicates that these brooches were taken as gifts by the Imperial Family on their many trips in Russia and abroad, most of them made by Thielemann. The diamond version as shown here is the most valuable, others were less richly decorated. An identical brooch with mention on the back of a present from Nicholas II in 1906 sold at Christie's London, 26 November 2018, lot 217. Expert : Maxime CHARRON - +33 (0)6 50 00 65 51
