Written in response to Moncrif's "Histoire des chats", (see below under that name), this encyclopedic and entertaining history uses rats as a metaphor for Man. Rare first edition illustrated with an unsigned frontispiece, an added plate by Marillier engraved by de Launay and an unsigned plate entitled "Apollo Smyntheus". (Barbier II, 764). Bound in suite: Lettre critique de Monsieur l'Abbé à Monsieur*** (Abbé Guyot des Fontaines) sur son histoire des rats avec la réponse de l'auteur. Ratopolis, sn, 1737. 2]-33 pages.
