LUCAS (Paul). Voyage of Sieur Paul Lucas, made in MDCCXIV, &c. By order of Louis XIV, in Turkey, Asia, Syria, Palestine, Upper & Lower Egypt, &c. where one will find some very curious remarks, compared to what the Ancients said about the labyrinth of Egypt,... First edition of Lucas' third voyage, devoted to Turkey and mainly to Egypt. Appointed Antiquary of the King by Louis XIV, the explorer describes many archaeological sites and lists at the end of the last volume all the curiosities he brought back (precious stones, medals, seahorses, idols, seeds, roots, horned snake,...). This report is illustrated with 32 plates (out of 34) often folding, of which the very large one representing the caravan of the great Caire to Mecca, and the map of Natolia. Attached : LEGUAT.
