(Freemasonry) - [PINCEMAILLE]. Allegorical conversations organized by wisdom. London (Paris ?, Metz ?), Golden Heat, 1763.
13 booklets of [4]-8; 12; 12; 12; 9; 8; 8; 8; 9; 6; 9; 10; 21 pages, bound in 1 volume in-16, light-coloured basane, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (period binding).
First disclosure of the Scottish high ranks provided by the author, Master of the Lodge of Candor in Metz.
Each booklet, with its own title dated, applies to a Masonic grade of which it gives the ritual and instruction: Apprentice, Companion, Master, Master Perfect, Irish Master, English Master, Master Chosen, Master Chosen of the Unknown, Master Chosen of the Fifteen, Master Illustrious, Scottish, Sublime Scottish, Perfect English Masters.
These thirteen booklets are separated by a handwritten leaflet at the time delivering the various signs, touches, words and passwords. Corners a little dulled, one plate forced (Fesch, col. 428, indicates that the work appeared in monthly issues until 1766). Rare especially with the handwritten details at the time.
