CHARDIN (Jean). Travels of Monsieur le Chevalier Chardin in Persia and in other places of the East, containing the journey from Paris to Ispahan, Capital of the Persian Empire. Enriched with a great number of beautiful figures in intaglio, representing the Antiquities and remarkable things of the country. Amsterdam, Jean louis de Lorme, 1711. 500/700 3 volumes in-4° of [10]-279 ; 454 ; 254-[26] pages, brown calf, gilt arms on the boards, spine ribbed and decorated (period binding). Famous relations, written with great charm and pleasure. The travels are illustrated with a frontispiece portrait by Chardin, a folding map, 3 large pictorial bands and 78 engraved plates, most of them folding, showing the Persian cities, the reception feast of the author in Teflis, the caravanserai of Cachan, the ancient tombs of the ancient kings, ruins of Persepolis, etc., etc. These three journeys undertaken in 1665 are of great importance for the history of Persia and Armenia. 3 plates and 12 leaves burnt with missing text, some plates torn without missing, binding worn.
