AULNOY (Countess of). History of Jean de... - Lot 103 - De Baecque et Associés
AULNOY (Countess of). History of Jean de Bourbon, Prince of Carency. Paris, Barbin, and J. Guignard, 1692. 3 volumes in-12, old red morocco, triple gilt fillet with corner fleurons on the boards, spine ribbed and gilt edges (period binding). FIRST EDITION. Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville, Countess d'Aulnoy, a scandalous woman of spirit, was at the origin of the literary fairy tale, making extensive use of allegories and satires; her criticisms of the Court which are masked in her writings were often compared to the fables of La Fontaine. Pleasant copy in contemporary morocco. (Barbier II, 674).
