Claude monet (1840-1926)
Claude MONET (1840-1926). L.A.S. to Manzana-Pissarro. 17 July 1904. 2 pp. in-8. Header of Giverny. Very beautiful letter to the memory of Pissarro. "I regretted that you did not come to see me with your mother and Lucien. We could even have talked about your affairs. I was made aware of things and of your desire by your mother and Lucien, and I confess that what you are asking of me is neither feasible nor regular. It is the duty of all of you to stick to the letter, to your father's wishes, you owe it to him, and there is no way out of this, at least that is my opinion and I can only advise you to comply. If, by misfortune, your shares being done, one or the other of you, needing money, wanted to realize and sell, it would be a very bad thing for the interest of all and especially for the memory of Pissarro. This is what I would have said to you, if you had come, so think it over carefully, and above all I repeat, follow your father's wishes, respect them.
