INDIA - ALBUM. Album small in-4, bound in red morocco, spine and covers richly decorated (gold framing and cold stamping). Gilt title on the boards "Amelia [Butler] 1825" and on the second "Album". First section unclipped. Gilt edges A very fine English romantic album, containing in particular a series of Indian scenes including a watercolour portrait of Maharaja Gulab Singh (1792-1857) offered by the maharaja himself to the Governor of India Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence (1806-1857). It contains a signed DB text accompanied by a humorous musical score for "cat, duck, donky & piano", 7 ink drawings after the great masters (Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Hals, etc.), 3 scenes in silhouette, 3 scenes of the maharajah's life, and a musical score.), 3 scenes in silhouette, watercolours (marine, flowers, landscape), prints, as well as 18 beautiful captioned drawings of Indian scenes (cut and pasted): 15 of monuments ("ruins near Delhi", "Tomb of Russool Dowlah - the Gilt Mosque", "Taj Mahal - Agra", etc. ) and 3 of personalities: "Goolab Singh", "Prime minister" and "Dhuleess Singh", with this precision: "these 3 pictures were given to Sir Henry Lawrence by Goolab Singh at Lahore". The whole thing is interspersed with poems.
