General René ALTMAYER (1882-1976), general, he commanded the 5th army corps in 1940. Set of 18 letters addressed to him + 1 cv. Mainly period 1945-1948. Personal correspondence received by General René Altmayer after the war, testifying to the resumption of his life as a free man [he had been arrested by the Gestapo, deported as a "hostage-personality" in August 1943 and will be released only on May 8, 1945]. Letters from Georges Lecomte, Tharaud brothers, Jean Sarrailh, Jean Benedetti, Marcel Poignard, Adrien Dansette, Robert Coulondre, General de Vernejoul, Mrs. Weygand, General Joseph Lafont (on the letterhead of the French scouting), General Meyer, prefects of the Gold Coast, of the Gironde, etc. One joined 2 C.A.S. of the general Trochu and the general Béziat.
