Pianoforte Erard Frères, in Paris 37 rue... - Lot 84 - De Baecque et Associés
Pianoforte Erard Frères, in Paris 37 rue du Mail 1802 (on a cartouche written in ink on the window above the keyboard), lemon wood front, mahogany cabinet and mahogany veneer with bronze decoration. Made in 1802. 4 expression stops with a pedalboard with 4 pedals - a forté - a bassoon, a lute and maybe a celeste. 61 keys in ivory and ebony. It has a range of 5 octaves, from F1 to F5, ivory and ebony keyboard in good condition. To support the tension of the strings, the sounding body is made of a wooden frame, called a bracing, on which the soundboard is placed. The soundboard has no cracks and seems to have been varnished after a restoration. The string section is also in good condition and has been redone, the high strings are made of steel and show only a few traces of corrosion. The brass middle strings are in good condition and the bass strings are also made of copper spun on steel. The strings are stretched between the ends of two windchests, the pinch box and the peg box. The pegbox, in which spikes are driven, around which the loops at the end of the strings are passed, takes the shape of the body. The pegbox is fixed to the bottom of the keyboard and above the soundboard, which is sound and has no cracks. Steel pegs are embedded in the peg box, which appear to have been replaced following a restoration but are similar to the original pegs. All the hammers and dampers are also present and have also been redone with modern materials. This piano is interesting because of its 4 expression stops, its good condition and its playability, it has however undergone a restoration that deserves to be reviewed. With tuning key Pedalboard redone
