BALINGHEM (Antoine de). After-dinner and... - Lot 13 - De Baecque et Associés
BALINGHEM (Antoine de). After-dinner and table talk against the excel at drinking and eating, to live long, healthy and saintly lives, dialogue between a prince and seven learned characters. Saint-Omer, Charles Boscart, 1624. Petit in-8 of [24]- 678 (out of 680) pages, hard ivory vellum (binding of the time). Interesting document on Flemish morals where it is only a question of drunkenness, and female and male goinfreries, with a lot of anecdotes about the excesses of pleasures! This is the second, partly original edition of these facetious dialogues. It contains moreover, with a title dated 1625: Twelve propositions to spend pleasantly and honestly the days of the Quaresmeaux; these propositions, placed at the end in continuous pagination, are missing in many copies. These last ones point out to the reader that illicit voluptuousness transforms man into a beast, that it harms the body, the soul, is detestable and brings only sadness... Title rewound, small scattered dirt. A missing leaflet (p.671/72) (Gay I, 250) (Vicar, 62) (Simon, n°442).
