APOLLODORE. The three books of the library... - Lot 8 - De Baecque et Associés
APOLLODORE. The three books of the library of Apollodore or the origin of the Dieus. Translated from the Greek copy by Jean Passerat, reader-interpreter of the King, for the use of those who wish to know the ancient fables. Paris, Jean Gesselin, 1605. Petit in-12 of [8]-248-[148]-1bl. pages, cinnamon morocco, gilt inner net, spine ribbed, gilt edges, edged case (Alix). First very rare French translation according to Clavier. Jean Passerat (1534-1602) obtained in Paris the place of eloquence at the royal college, vacant by the death of Ramus, and also composed some of the verses found in the Satyr Menippea. The dedication to Mademoiselle de Bellièvre is signed by Rougevalet, nephew of the author who published this translation on his uncle's manuscripts. Washed copy, several short trimmed leaves with a small gap in the titles of the pages.
