Grande Vague, Sète n°17, printemps 1857 Period albuminated print made from two wet collodion negatives, stamped with the red ink stamp of the signature at the bottom right The proof is laminated on an original cardboard stamped at the bottom centre of the Gustave Le Gray & C° dry stamp, Paris, decorated with a printed label stuck at the bottom right indicating: Grande Vague _Cette. N°17. and numbered in ink at bottom left 13,329 Proof: H. 34,5 cm - L. 41,6 cm Mounting: H. 53,5 cm - L. 68 cm Our recently rediscovered proof seems hardly to have been exposed to light and has exceptional tonality and contrasts. Very slight defects in the upper part of the image (sky).
